Amityville Fire Loss? Whom to Call for Help?

11/17/2021 (Permalink)

three servpro vehicles parked The right call is to SERVPRO for fire damage cleanup and restoration. Our Green Fleet can quickly arrive at any Amityville property.

SERVPRO Provides Fire & Water Damage Restorations in Amityville

Whenever a fire breaks out inside your house, partially combusted particles in the form of smoke get released into the air. Most fires produce both wet and dry smoke while they burn. Dry smoke is created when the fire has a lot of oxygen and burns fast. Wet smoke gets created when the fire gets minimal oxygen and burns slowly.

Whenever our SERVPRO team conducts fire restoration in Amityville, we first inspect your entire structure for damage. We can perform a wipe test that tells us what surfaces were affected by dry smoke and which areas encountered wet smoke. Since typically wet smoke is harder to remove than dry smoke, we can use different methods on the various surfaces inside your home. Kitchen fires may have a protein-based fuel source, like meat or oils, that can be especially difficult to remove. These protein-based fires also may require specific odor removal techniques.

Depending on the type of surface affected, we can use either wet or dry-cleaning methods. For example, if porous surfaces such as wallpaper or unpainted drywall get affected by soot residues, we can use dry methods to remove soot, such as dry sponge cleaning. Or, if hardwood surfaces contain soot residues, then we can use specialized chemicals to break down and remove the soils.

Even if the fire was small, it could have produced a lot of wet smoke while the fuels were smoldering. Since residues created by wet smoke are very difficult to remove, the job is best left to the professionals at SERVPRO. After we complete our inspection of your entire structure, we can do the following to help:

  • Fire and Smoke Damage Restoration and Clean Up
  • Smoke Remediation
  • Water & Fire Damage Restorations
  • House Fire Clean Up

Whether a small fire or a large disaster, call SERVPRO of Amityville / Lindenhurst at (631) 319-1680.

SERVPRO Assists Lindenhurst Residents with Black Mold Damage Remediation

Everyone living on the East Coast knows about mold and how easily it can form due to the high humidity in the region. Various types of fungi exist outdoors, but what happens when they make their way into your dwelling? The answer to that question is, a fungus can quickly grow and spread once it forms.

Mold damage in Lindenhurst can start as minor but then become a major problem in a short time. Spores created by the fungi can also float around your building and affect other areas far away from the initial source. And, since mold can cause health effects, it is sensible to call in a professional restoration company such as SERVPRO.

We have a highly trained team that follows guidelines by the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC). Our office is nearby, and we can provide fast 24/7 service. We have access to the industry's most advanced technology to provide you with the following services:

•    Mold Inspections
•    Attic Mold Remediation
•    Bathroom Mold Remediation
•    Basement Mold Remediation
•    Black Mold Damage Repairs

Since spores can spread through your house so quickly, one of our main goals is to prevent future fungal growth. We can accomplish this by setting up a containment chamber around the affected area. We can then create negative air pressure inside the contained room to catch any harmful particles in the air using an air scrubber. After the affected building materials get removed, we can then treat the area with antimicrobial solutions or seal it with a specialized sealant paint like Killz.

Any time you see even a tiny amount of black mold starting to form in your house, call SERVPRO of Amityville / Lindenhurst at (631) 319-1680.

Emergency Services are Critical to Prevent Irreparable Damage to Exposed Lindenhurst Homes

Homes and businesses throughout the area experience water damage regularly, so it is an emergency that our SERVPRO team prepares to face. We have pre-stocked vehicles in our Green Fleet to mitigate loss quickly after these emergencies.

Identifying the Source of the Water Damage

Water damage inspections can be among the earliest guideposts for water mitigation in Lindenhurst. Our production manager works with the customer to establish restoration priorities and develop a tailored restoration approach. This inspection can also pinpoint the source of the water damage to repair structural elements and plumbing where necessary.

Remove Contents from the Damaged Area

Your personal belongings are a focal point for the restoration team. Removing contents from the affected areas of the house keeps them from becoming hosts for microbial colonies or experiencing irreparable harm. Our cleaning technicians have on-site recovery options and can relocate items to dry spaces in the house or to our nearby SERVPRO facility for focused restoration services.

Clearing Surface Water Concerns

Among the most necessary mitigative actions is removing standing surface water. Because there are so many types of flooring and materials that could become affected by this pooling, several extraction devices must be used. The options get selected based on the severity of the damage and its location and can include:

  • Electric submersible pump
  • Trash pump
  • Truck-mount extractor
  • Wet vacuum
  • Weighted extractor
  • Carpet wand

As you can see, getting specific mitigation actions started right away can be critical to preventing the situation from getting worse in your home. Water damage is among the most common callouts for our SERVPRO of Amityville / Lindenhurst team, so we are prepared to help these damaged properties 24/7. Give us a call today at (631) 319-1680.

Post-Fire Effects in an Amityville Office Require Specific Restoration Services to Overcome

Fire loss effects can spread quickly throughout open spaces in an office building. Smoke damage can appear in many forms, requiring mitigation and restoration strategies to remove and recover. Our experienced technicians can respond fast to help when you need it.

Emergency Services Protect the Property

The fire damage restoration of Amityville office buildings exists on a finite timeline. The longer restoration and mitigation take to begin, the more damage that ultimately the property endures. Emergency services are a way to get mitigative actions started even before much of the job scoping phase determines where official restoration is necessary. Some of these actions include:

  • Controlled demolition
  • Debris removal
  • Air filtration
  • Water removal

Clearing Smoke Residues and Soot from Surfaces and Furniture

Soot and smoke residues are another consideration for the way smoke can impact an office building. These soil deposits resting on the furniture, building materials, and electronics require a combination of wet and dry cleaning strategies to emulsify or dissolve stubborn soot particles to clean the hosting material.

Overcoming Smoke Malodors Left Behind

One effect of smoke that can spread the farthest in open areas of Amityville office buildings is malodors. Burning smells created from the combustion of varying materials can create noxious and severe odors that make working impossible. We have deodorization practices to help reduce and neutralize these harsh and unwelcome malodors.

Smoke can affect local offices and commercial properties heavily after a fire. Considering the many possible effects that could exist throughout the building, trust an experienced fire restoration team to help. Our SERVPRO of Amityville / Lindenhurst professionals are ready 24/7 to help make fires “Like it never even happened.” Call us today at (631) 319-1680.

Water Removal Services

Removing water from the basement floors after flood damage in Lindenhurst homes can involve several specific tools from our recovery inventory. Because solids and debris are possible in standing water, trash pumps and wet vacuums are often the extractors of choice for continuous flow.

Muck-Out Cleaning and Material Discarding

Debris, mud, and solids can all be threatening presences in your home after natural flooding. As challenging as this muck can be to clean and remove, it is a critical process to restore a basement area. Shoveling out mud and solids reduces the presence of pathogenic threats and contaminants as it improves the odds of salvaging the flooring surface whether concrete or otherwise.

Needed Repairs to Prevent New Flood Damage

What Does A Rebuild Mean During Mold Remediation In Lindenhurst Homes?

7/29/2021 (Permalink)

"Mold damage can happen out of sight" Mold can be a serious issue in your home. Don't let mold take over. Call SERVPRO for help today.

SERVPRO Helps Manage Complex Mold Removal Processes Restoring Pre-Loss Conditions

If the mold infestation in your Lindenhurst home is widespread, it might require removing all porous structural materials such as wall panels and insulation in the entire structure or specific sections such as rooms. The process is called a rebuild because, after removal, new materials must be installed.

Doing a rebuild as part of mold remediation efforts in Lindenhurst properties is very involved since it requires a skillful teardown of materials without affecting the rest of the structure. Removing moldy materials can also be risky since mold can cause health effects. Our SERVPRO crews are prepared with everything from hand tools to PPE, ensuring they can handle the removal, reinstallation, and refinishing of affected areas.

Rebuilds can help resolve various situations, including:

  • Attic mold removal
  • Black mold damage repairs
  • Basement mold remediation
  • Bathroom mold removal

Before deciding to do a rebuild, our SERVPRO technicians do a full assessment of the structure. We use thermal cameras to check for hidden moisture pockets. Drilling small holes into wall or ceiling panels also helps us inspect the property non-invasively using borescopes.

Proper management of moldy debris is necessary during the rebuild. Our SERVPRO technicians first set up airtight barriers using plastic sheets, thus containing the moldy debris and spores within the affected area when we start demolition. We also use zip-lock trash bags to collect the wastes for disposal.

Other useful steps for mold control include:

  • Cleaning the bare structure with sporicides and antimicrobials
  • HEPA vacuuming surfaces to remove all trace debris
  • Drying any wet areas

SERVPRO of Amityville / Lindenhurst offers quality mold remediation services restoring properties to their preloss state. Call us at (631) 319-1680. We’re Faster To Any Size Disaster.

What Is Involved In Fire Restoration For Amityville Condos?

7/23/2021 (Permalink)

SERVPRO vehicle When a fire damages your Amityville condo, contact the experts at SERVPRO right away for remediation services.

SERVPRO Helps Resolve Different Issues on Different Floors during Water & Fire Damage Restorations

For storied houses in Amityville, such as condominiums, the damage from a fire can vary on each floor unless the structure is completely ravaged during the blaze. In some sections, materials degenerate from exposure to flames and heat. On floors further from the seat of the fire, smoke damage is more likely.

When executing fire restoration in an Amityville condo, it is essential to address all the problems without creating additional damages, which calls for the right resources. SERVPRO restoration teams are capable of tearing down damaged materials, cleaning soiled areas, setting up protective barriers, and refinishing affected areas. We rely on state-of-the-art equipment, and experience gained handling fire losses over time.

The Most Common Restoration Tasks Involve:

  • Fire damage restoration
  • Smoke remediation
  • House fire clean up

Although issues vary in a fire-damaged condo, it might be hard to tell from casual observation since most surfaces are blackened with soils and debris strewn all over the facility. Our SERVPRO crew chiefs first inspect the facility to establish the problems at your facility since every loss is unique.

The Typical Damages we Expect Include:

  • Torn down insulation and wall panels
  • Wet materials or contents from firefighting efforts
  • Foul odor because of smoke residues
  • Deep soiling from fire residues or firefighting chemicals

Our SERVPRO technicians help tear down all unsalvageable materials affected by flames or excess moisture absorption. We also check the char depth on framing to determine whether replacement is necessary. In case the structural integrity of the frames is still intact, we can sand off the charring and apply a sealing agent to contain any odors.

SERVPRO of Amityville / Lindenhurst is highly experienced in fire restoration and thus addresses any issues, “Like it never even happened.” Call us at (631) 319-1680 for assistance.

Can Water Mitigation Help Prevent Cupping for Flooring In My Amityville Home?

7/14/2021 (Permalink)

SERVPRO logo No matter how your property is impacted by water, you can call on our technicians day or night for help.

SERVPRO Expedites Water Extraction to Prevent Expensive Water Damage Repairs

A hardwood floor may be your dream floor treatment. However, exposure to significant volumes of water can damage the floor irreparably, forcing you to strip it down. However, appropriate water mitigation efforts can help you avoid such costly outcomes.

For water mitigation to help Amityville homeowners adequately, a timely and skillful approach is essential. SERVPRO teams can provide both since we have highly trained and IICRC certified water restoration technicians. Our crews are also equipped with technologically advanced tools enabling us to respond to any water loss situation.

The Most Common Water-related Losses We Handle Include:

  • Water clean up
  • Water damage repairs
  • Burst pipes
  • Flood restoration

Because of the numerous joints where the floorboards meet, water seeps into the floor cavities if left to stand for long periods. The seepage and absorption are rarely uniform, leading to physical deterioration such as cupping, in which the edges of the floorboards are lifted.

Various mitigation processes can help prevent permanent damage. Our SERVPRO technicians combine the use of regular extractors and drying mats removing surface water as well as any moisture that penetrates beneath the floorboards. When done in time, the removal efforts ensure that no cupping occurs.

Since it is not always possible to respond in time, other solutions may be necessary. Our SERVPRO technicians sand out the slightly raised edges restoring any changes to the floor surface, “Like it never even happened.”

SERVPRO of Amityville / Lindenhurst delivers quality water mitigation services. You can reach us at (631) 319-1680 when you need assistance.

Water seeping through the ceiling from an overflowing tub or washing machine can damage documents and pictures in the room below. If you have priceless photo albums stored in the attic or basement and a water intrusion happens, you may think all is lost.

Can Wet Papers and Pictures Be Salvaged after a Water-Damaging Event?

Books, photos, and papers are much more fragile than most things when wet. Homeowners often think any material like that has to get thrown away if it is wet. But our production facility technicians have solutions to water damage in Lindenhurst when it impacts pictures or documents.

Freeze Drying Can Help

Freeze-drying, or sublimation, is a specialized method used to restore water damaged documents. Homeowners can benefit from this process. Here is how it works:

  • The process uses pressurized chambers filled with dry ice (frozen carbon dioxide.) This instantaneous freezing prevents further degradation. The pressure releases, and the frozen water sublimates with the CO2 into a gaseous state. Thawing does not cause additional wetting. The papers may not look like they did initially, but the information gets saved.
  • Precious photos are saved with this process, keeping the memories for the future.
  • This process does not always work

SERVPRO of Amityville / Lindenhurst provides innovative solutions for water damaged papers and pictures. Contact us at (631) 319-1680 for more information and ensure your memories and vital information are salvaged.

fire damaged foyer Smoke and soot rarely stay localized even in a small fire. Call SERVPRO fast effective fire damage remediation.

SERVPRO Can Offer Reliable Fire Damage Restoration Services to Lindenhurst Residents

Our SERVPRO technicians consider many factors when performing fire and smoke damage cleanup procedures in your Lindenhurst home. Walls and ceilings are part of the most affected areas during a fire incident since soot particles travel and settle in different concentrations. We understand that ceiling and wall surfaces are never uniform when it comes to their level of finishing. The materials they are made from can be different- for example, some walls may be covered by fabrics, carpeting, and even wallpaper.

How Does SERVPRO Select Appropriate Fire and Smoke Cleanup Methods For your Lindenhurst Home?

Pretesting the surfaces for cleanability is one of the first steps that our SERVPRO technicians do during fire damage restoration in Lindenhurst. We determine whether an area is dry or wet, the type of smoke deposits, and other related factors during this step. From experience, the following methods are reliable in cleaning most walls and ceilings:

  • Wet cleaning: We use this to clean surfaces with dry soot or ash and is more appropriate for wood, metal, or painted ceilings.
  • Dry Cleaning Sponge: We use it to clean non-grease-based particles from all types of ceilings. The technique can also be used to pre-clean surfaces before the application of the wet cleaning method.
  • Peroxide active cleaning: The method is used to clean porous and nonporous surfaces with heavy tar soiling.

You can depend on SERVPRO of Amityville / Lindenhurst to restore your property after a fire damage incident. Call (631) 319-1680 and work with experienced professionals to return your home to its preloss state.

Why Does Smoke Damage Spread Through a Property in Lindenhurst?

4/19/2021 (Permalink)

Smoke billowing out of a window. Smoke can devour a property, call SERVPRO of Amityville / Lindenhurst for assistance today.

SERVPRO is a Fire Damage Restoration Provider that Can Help Remove Smoke Staining from your Lindenhurst Home

Understanding the behavior of smoke and how it affects the structure of your home is an exact science. The materials used in home construction are typically natural materials that produce nitrogen oxides. These are usually in the form of dry powdery smoke deposits. Non-organic materials, which may include adhesives, have sulfur which is typically greasy.

SERVPRO technicians can assist with:

  • Smoke damage
  • Fire and smoke damage
  • Fire damaged homes

One other factor in the fire damage restoration of your Lindenhurst is the number of aerosols released. Aerosols are liquids suspended in smoke and can absorb odor or other particles causing unpleasant smells. The amount of aerosols depends mainly on the fire's temperature and the length of time that the fire was burning.

  • Dry residues typically carry fewer aerosols making standard odor removal procedures like fogging more effective.
  • Wet smokes may contain aerosols from varnishes and other synthetics, are odorous, and generally make contents non-salvageable.
  • Wet smokes can sometimes be removed using a solvent but must be extensively pre-tested before usage.

Counteracting fire impact relies on a solid understanding of different residue types. Contact SERVPRO of Amityville / Lindenhurst for fire damage restoration technicians at (631) 319-1680.

A green road sign that says Amityville Like our towns broad history, SERVPRO of Amityville / Lindenhurst has a broad variety of ways to assist a property after water damage.

Helping Amityville business owners handle stormwater mitigation

Amityville needs no introduction – the name has become synonymous with the novel, The Amityville Horror, and the movie of the same name. The book's author, Jay Anson, maintains that it was based on the Lutz family's true story and the supernatural hauntings that plagued them in their village home.

Whether you believe the story or not, there is no doubt that the Lutz's former home is a popular tourist destination! The house is an imposing Dutch Colonial style, with five bedrooms and its own boathouse just off Long Island Sound. Many people do not realize that the home in Amityville is not the one from the famous horror movie. That home is in New Jersey – filmmakers had to go there because Amityville authorities would not allow them to film the actual house.

The house has attracted so much tourist interest that its former owners, James, and Barbara Cromarty, changed its address from 112 Ocean Avenue to 108 Ocean Avenue in the hope of discouraging the hordes of visitors who came to the village wanting to see the house. You can, of course, still view the house from the outside today, but you are unlikely to find any ghosts – several people have owned it since the Lutz's lived there, and all reported no paranormal activity.

Facing Challenges Handling Flood Water in Your Lindenhurst Property?

floodwaters overtaking white house It's that time of the year...spring storms. Call SERVPRO for any storm and flood damage you encounter.

Call SERVPRO to Help Manage Flooding Removal Conveniently

In most cases, the floodwaters inundating your house dissipate once the water outside the structure recedes. However, such ideal outcomes may not always happen, necessitating other removal processes.

Flood water removal from Lindenhurst properties is challenging because it involves more than just moving water. Floodwaters usually have deposits like mud and silt, which can hinder regular extraction efforts. The water also contains various hazardous materials, including biohazards and chemicals, so disposing of it randomly after extraction is not viable.

SERVPRO helps ease the water removal process by tackling all the challenging aspects of the process, including:

  • Availing specialized extract equipment such as self-priming trash pumps
  • Identifying the appropriate disposal point onsite or offsite
  • Cleaning up the areas affected by the floodwaters

After removing water from the property, additional steps such as decontamination and deodorization are necessary. Our SERVPRO technicians spray EPA-registered, broad-spectrum disinfectants around the property to remove contaminants. We also remove offensive odors within the property using various methods, including ULV fogging, which helps spread odor counteractants to all affected areas.

For Convenience during Fire Restoration of Your Lindenhurst Home Call SERVPRO

After a fire incident at your home, you have to address the inconvenience of residues and odor to ensure a comfortable stay. You might face unexpected challenges that might limit the effectiveness of your removal efforts.

Some of the typical reasons you might face challenges when attempting fire and smoke removal from your Lindenhurst home include:

  • Using the wrong equipment to resolve the issue
  • Improper handling of soiled materials
  • Incorrect classification of residues

SERVPRO technicians tackle cleanup and other residue removal processes conveniently through preparation. We establish which tasks the tools we have in our collection are best suited to accomplish. For instance, when cleaning fabrics or upholstery items, we understand that upholstery machines do not have filter systems for dry soils, so we do not use them to vacuum soiled fabrics. Wiping the materials with dry cleaning sponges before vacuuming also helps remove dust, pet hair, and soot.

Since cleaning is not feasible for some materials, it is necessary to identify and remove such materials. For instance, our SERVPRO technicians replace the top layers of insulation from walls to eliminate soot residues and odor from wall cavities.

SERVPRO of Amityville / Lindenhurst responds to any fire and smoke removal challenge you might face. Call us at (631) 319-1680.

Worried About Uncertain Outcomes of Water Restoration?

Water damaged wood sub-floor SERVPRO has the equipment to measure moisture in your home and determine the best drying standards.

SERVPRO Uses Procedural Approaches for Quantifiable Restoration of Amityville Properties

After water leaks into your home and you start mitigation processes such as mopping off standing water and airing the premises, you might not be sure whether these steps are beneficial. Although professional water restorers may follow similar approaches when restoring a property, specific evaluation techniques are applied to gauge effectiveness.

Assessing the level of water ingression is essential before attempting water restoration in your Amityville property. Having an accurate estimate helps in setting realistic drying goals and also ensures there is sufficient restoration equipment. Our SERVPRO technicians use several approaches to get the correct assessments, including:

  • Measuring humidity levels in indoor air using hygrometers
  • Measuring the depth of pooling water
  • Checking moisture content in affected materials

Ascertaining moisture content in materials is the most challenging aspect since materials differ in their physical composition. For wood, it is easy to determine moisture levels using moisture meters and translate the results. For instance, a reading of 10% moisture content in wood means that in 100 pounds of wood, there are 10 pounds of water. For non-wood materials, there is a relative scale. With such tools, our technicians can provide accurate estimates.

SERVPRO of Amityville / Lindenhurst can provide precise projections of the outcomes to expect from water restoration. Call us at (631) 319-1680.

Amityville's village is on the eastern shore of Long Island, bordered by the Long Island Sound and the Atlantic Ocean. As a part of Suffolk County in New York State, the small residential population of 9,523 makes up the wider Babylon hamlet. Amityville became a popular holiday destination for the east coast's more affluent people during the early nineteenth century. The popularity of the locale as a tourist destination led to several hotels and large houses that overlooked the Atlantic Ocean with beach access. Today, Amityville remains an affluent community on New York State's Long Island.

Its early inhabitants adopted the name Amityville at a raucous village meeting in 1846. Sammual Ireland, a prominent Amityville citizen, became restless during the debate and suggested the name “Amity,” which means friendly. The villagers in attendance agreed to name the village after Amity, his schooner.

The village’s history

Amityville was rich in salt hay, which attracted a significant number of farmers from Huntington into the area. The farmers began settling in Amityville in 1653 and used the salty hay as animal fodder. On March 3, 1894, the village became Babylon Town’s second incorporated area. The first Village President was Charles Wood.

Amityville was a popular tourist point of interest with large homes and hotels on the bay. In its infancy, the village had strong ties to the farming, fishing, and boating industries. However, as time went by, the farms and marine industries paved the way for tourism. The beaches and cool breezes from the Great South Bay offered summer visitors comfort.

Amityville’s economy

From the beginning, the village has been the heart of transport and business. In 1867, the Southside Railroad began its operations in the area, and in 1909, the first Cross-Island trolley line came from Huntington.

In 1892, investors founded the Bank of Amityville, and in 1907, the village’s library was organized. In the late 1800s and early 1900s, the village became a popular summer resort area for tourists.

Water damage in resorts or other places of business can lead to short- or long-term loss of customers. When a water loss occurs, getting help from an experienced restoration firm is vital.

SERVPRO Provides Detailed Water Damage Assessment to Limit Secondary Damages and Costs When Restoring Your Lindenhurst Home

When looking for Lindenhurst, you will find this village within Suffolk County in the state of New York. It is located in the town of Babylon and along the southern shoreline of Long Island. According to the United States Census taken in 2010, Lindenhurst, NY, had a population of 27,253 people. The official title of this village is the Incorporated Village of Lindenhurst, and it has a total area of about 3.8 square miles, with 0.1 square miles being water.

There is a Lot Behind the History of Lindenhurst, New York

Lindenhurst's roots go back to the Massapequa and Secatogue Indian tribes when they used to forage the Lindenhurst woods for food. This area was called Neguntatogue at the time, which meant "forsaken land."

The first white people to discover the area were English-origin farmers from Huntington. They started to venture into the Lindenhurst region while looking for salt hay, which grew in abundance throughout the marshlands. In 1657, a Huntington farmer named Jonas Wood signed a treaty alongside his neighbors with the Secatogue Indians that helped procure five necks of land. This included Venetian Shores, which was then called Santapogue Neck, and Little Neck, which is located in the western area of the Lindenhurst Canal.

Even though the 1600s saw Huntington farmers coming to the region, no settlements had yet been established. Jesse Ketcham and his wife built the first home in the 1780s, which was located in the former Temperance Brush, which is now known as the location east of Washington Avenue on Montauk Highway. Some of the other earlier settlers to the region were the Smiths, Fleets, Strongs, Van Nostrands, and the Bartos. All of these families lived relatively quiet farming lives until the South Side Railroad went up around 1867.

Prior to the turn of the 20th century, there were many businesses and factories that flourished in Lindenhurst's village. The village growth made way for a fire department, which was when "Breslau Feuer Wehr" was formed in 1877. The name was later changed to Breslau Engine Company four years later. At the same time, Union Hook & Ladder was formed, followed by Library Hose Company in 1884. These three companies, which included manpower of 44 residents of the region, became the Breslau Fire Department in 1885.

The eastern coast was ravaged by Hurricane Sandy, which touched down on October 30, 2012, in Lindenhurst and subsequently flooded a good portion of the streets throughout the village. Along the southern part of the Montauk Highway, water got reported up to six feet in height. Unfortunately, several fires also broke out in the area, which caused firefighters to address blazes while battling water levels that ranged from four to six feet. Additionally, people throughout the northern side of Lindenhurst went without power for more than a week. The water from the flooding due to the hurricane began to subside after about two days.

Overall, the Village of Amityville spans 2.5 square miles, with .4 square miles of that being water.

In 1653, Huntington settlers made their way to this region while searching for a source of salt hay. Chief Wyandanch granted the first deed of land in Amityville in 1658. The area was called Huntington West Neck South originally, and it is located along the border of Suffolk County and Great South Bay. Now known as the town of Babylon, it is said that the Amityville village name was changed in 1846 as residents worked to establish the new post office after a town meeting got out of control. Others claim that the name came from a boat that a mill owner by the name of Samuel Ireland had called the Amity.

Incorporated in March 1894, the village became a top-rated tourist destination due to the larger hotels along the bay and significantly-sized homes in the region. It is said that Annie Oakley was a frequent guest of a vaudevillian named Fred Stone and that Will Rogers also stumbled across Clocks Boulevard from Stone. There was also a house within the community that had been owned by gangster Al Capone.

How SERVPRO Can Protect Amityville Attractions from Water Damage

11/17/2020 (Permalink)

back of SERVPRO service vehicles When the Horror of Water Damage Strikes Your Amityville Home--SERVPRO Is There to Help!

With many unique points of interest, Amityville and Suffolk County are attractive tourist destinations.

Amityville is one of the most recognized, or possibly feared, municipalities in New York. Its fame as it is connected to a grisly crime and subsequent globally embraced horror movie franchise brings in a steady stream of tourists and visitors all on its own. When you consider the multiple otherattractions and historic structures here in the Long Island community, a town of under 10,000 residents can feel much larger and more developed.

Lauder Museum

Protecting Amityville's history and the nearby communities that makeup Babylon here in Suffolk County has fallen to the Amityville Historical Society. Among the most comprehensive of their efforts, records, and examples of educating travelers and locals about the colorful histories of Long Island, is the Lauder Museum.

Many events and eras have influenced and developed Amityville to become what it has, and these are the exhibits and artifacts that you can expect to see in the museum. Scaled models of the famous Suffolk County structures, 19th-century replicas and parlors, historical artifacts from Amityville's most famous (or infamous) residents and visitors are just a portion of what can be discovered within this free museum in town.

The Triangle

Many of the structures throughout Suffolk County are more than 100 years old, including one of Amityville's most recognizable buildings, The Triangle. The plot of land is created by the intersecting streets and town elements Broadway, Park Avenue, and Ireland Place. The field left was enough to construct the building that still exists on the property in 1892. In the mid-1990s, the Triangle and its newer gazebo at the northern point became officially recognized as a continual and community monument dedicated to those who have served Amityville throughout the years.

Amityville Beach / Sand Island

While not every part of the year is beach season here in the northern United States, the late spring and summer months can offer favorable climates for the sun and sand. The shore at the edge of town is one of the attractions for travelers to Long Island, making shops and boardwalk activities highly popular between May and September.

Sand Island might not have many structures and homes that our SERVPRO professionals might need to restore or clean when disasters like Hurricane Sandy in 2012 strike. However, it is still a desirable location for those that do not mind the short boat ride to the island south of Amityville Beach for privacy and quiet.

The Amityville Horror House

Perhaps one of the most famous structures in all of Long Island, the house intertwined with the infamous Amityville Horror film franchise, book, and true crime, has been a hot spot for tourists since the late 1970s. The story behind the original horror film added credibility to the legend of paranormal activity that influenced inhabitants. George Lutz and his family lived in the house on Ocean Avenue for nearly a year before claiming they needed to escape the property to save their lives.

The house itself has one of the most iconic looks recognized by generations of movie-goers. Despite municipal officials attempting to slow the traffic to the area by changing the name of the street or the house number, it has done little to deter avid fans from taking a shot of the house as they drive through the neighborhood. Structural changes and upgrades to the 5-bedroom Dutch Colonial residence have changed the recognizable half-moon windows from the third floor with traditional shuddered windows to match the rest of the property better. Despite changes to the exterior, fans still find their way to the house for photo opportunities.

Famous Influences on Amityville

Despite the infamy that Amityville embodies with the controversies surrounding the events happening in the Ocean Avenue Dutch colonial, there are positive ties back to the community from Hollywood and the world of professional sports as well. While many of the most prominent and recognizable names raised or that lived part of their life here in our Long Island community are accounted in the Lauder Museum, these individuals help to shine a brighter light on our town in each era of our history.

Modern celebrities and professional athletes like Alec Baldwin and Mike James continue to inspire and influence Amityville residents today. Basketball courts where Mike James first honed the skills that would take him to the NBA's greatest stages have been renamed in his honor here in town. In years past, the village became an attractive option for history's most infamous and legendary names like sharpshooter Annie Oakley and mafia boss Al Capone.

What Can Be Done About Water Damage in Amityville Basements?

Most of the basements constructed underneath older homes in Amityville were designed to be cellars that can keep vegetables from perishing quickly in certain seasons. Because of this, the temperature and conditions were designed to cool and moist. Even more than the persistent threat of groundwater, the basement is where the hub of plumbing services, the water heater, and even washing appliances are located

When under-insulated pipes become exposed to the cold snaps of the winter, or aging copper and lead plumbing pulls apart at weakening connections, the resulting water damage could be substantial for your property. Standing water presents immediate risks for exposed structural elements like wood framing and other porous components. Removing this surface pooling involves multiple tools ranging from various vacuums with wands and attachments to more formidable submersible pump options.

Removing water from the flooring is one considerable water mitigation step to take for damaged homes in the area, but eliminating the risks of secondary damages like mold growth hinges on thorough drying practices. As general contractors licensed through New York, we can offer a wide range of practical actions like controlled demolition, weep hole drilling, and plumbing repairs to make water damage incidents "Like it never even happened."

Water disasters can happen without warning in your basement, but our SERVPRO of Amityville / Lindenhurst team can respond fast to help. Contact us 24/7 at (631) 319-1680.

Our Specialists Discuss The Science Of Drying Your Flooded Amityville Home

1/26/2020 (Permalink)

mold growing on the wall Moisture must get dealt with, or conditions can easily get met for secondary effects like mold growth.

The Science of Drying Flooded Amityville Homes

Drying a damaged Amityville home is never a one-size-fits-all solution. We must address many of the same threats from one property to the next, but the drying solutions must change per the affected materials, migration of the damage, and the severity of the saturation. Our trained restoration professionals have extensive education through the Institute of Inspection Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC) in the science of drying to apply practical solutions to the projects we undertake.

Knowing the balance between airflow, humidity, and temperature can help our SERVPRO team gain control of flood damage in Amityville homes. How each of these elements can help or harm the drying process is vital information to providing efficient service to our customers.

Temperature
Heating surfaces and moist areas can often increase the drying rate, but not without drawbacks. Many surfaces cannot get heated up too quickly or too fiercely, as it can damage their appearance and functionality. Our technicians must evaluate any material that requires heat to speed up drying to ensure that the right limitations exist to protect the property above all else.

Airflow
The movement of air through a damaged region of the house is essential to continue evaporative drying efforts. In many situations, this component of drying science hinges on the use of air movers. The movement of air can help to clear a cool barrier from the surface as the water evaporates, allowing for other drying processes to continue being productive.

Humidity
As water evaporates, the humidity in the room rises. Moisture must get dealt with, or conditions can easily get met for secondary effects like mold growth. In an area already prone to higher humidity levels, the calculated placement of desiccant dehumidifiers can remove moisture from the air and help to expedite drying after flooding conditions.

While extraction is often one of the initial stages of recovery after a flood, our SERVPRO of Amityville / Lindenhurst must balance several factors to offer the most effective drying efforts possible. The better we can maintain this balance, the more of the affected materials and contents of your home that can get restored completely. Give us a call anytime at (631) 319-1680.

Amityville, your company is your life, let us help you get back to business.

There are many instances when the weather poses a problem for your business. However, interior water damage is often widespread, and the cause may include a burst pipe or a broken water heating system. No matter what problem your commercial space is faced with, calling the professionals helps you to mitigate the damage to get your business back to normal sooner than later.

SERVPRO technicians understand the importance of prompt response whenever there is commercial water damage in Amityville. Our process starts with a quick phone assessment so that the right tools and equipment get dispatched with the crew. We have a crew chief or a project manager for larger water loss jobs, that arrives with the team to do the initial assessment onsite before organizing the staff to ensure your business is back to regular operations as quickly as possible.

The first order of business is ensuring the water is turned off to the impacted area of the building. We work quickly to make sure that no slip-and-fall or electrical hazards are posing a problem. Our technicians use high capacity water extraction tools to remove standing water, and all of the future gets a thorough wipe-down before relocation to a dry space. If water still lingers, water extraction tools help remove any excess moisture before we bring in industrial air movers and place them strategically throughout your business. Our local restoration service can enter your property to perform mitigation, maintenance, and security tasks that allow for third-party electricians, plumbers, and remodelers to get your home back to a livable condition.

When flood damage occurs in your Lindenhurst property, the circuitry is likely fully-submerged in water. Usually, exposure to water of any type can require replacement of wires as well as sockets, which can rust and cause flickering power. However, the electric supply to your property is likely to be the least of your concerns when your property is flooding with outside water. SERVPRO technicians can arrive on-site to prepare your property for renovation in even the most adverse conditions.

In the immediate aftermath of a flood, SERVPRO can send technicians with portable generators to assess and prepare your home for restoration. Portable generators have a typical run-time of between 4 and 12 hours. However, they can be instrumental in powering extraction equipment, setting up temporary lighting as well as drying equipment. They are also quick to deploy and run, which is useful in a situation where time can be a factor.

Sometimes residents may need significant amounts of power supply to their properties. This may be true in situations where rewiring or remodeling is necessary. SERVPRO stocks industrial generators that run for up to twenty-four hours at a time and can support a full range of restorative and remodeling equipment. We can provide these generators to electricians, general constructors, and plumbers during the restoration phase to assist with your home's full recovery.

We have extensive experience working in large loss recovery projects with trusted third parties. After flooding, contact SERVPRO of Amityville / Lindenhurst at (631) 319-1680.

Minor Fire Damage Leaves Homeowners Inconvenienced in Farmingdale

While the tragedies and aftermaths of two- and three-alarm fires are perpetually in the news, small-sized ones can leave part of your Farmingdale home inhabitable. Despite not making the news, smaller blazes can certainly impact your family in several negative ways. SERVPRO crew members understand how smaller fires produce changes in your house, and how they impact your life. Our training covers this, as well as the most effective remediation methods to help our customers.

We want to assure you that restoring your property in Farmingdale after fire damage occurs is possible, and we can make this happen for you in the most cost-effective way possible. We discuss the work necessary, both before and during the job, to keep our customers knowledgeable about the processes taking place.

Fire damage mitigation and restoration covers many areas of your house, with several having different options. Because we want to gain your satisfaction with the final result, our project manager is always available to answer questions and explain variations of the project in more detail.

SERVPRO teams work together to address the physical fire damage to both structure and your belongings, the odors now offending your family members' noses, and also the water used to put out the flames. Our building crew helps by taking part in the removal of any requisite materials needing tear-outs and reinstallation, cleaning of soiled carpeting and other flooring, and HVAC duct cleaning.

Other team members set up air scrubbers, desiccant machines, and work to extract the water, and in some cases, the foam, sprayed on during firefighting efforts. Even a small fire can fill a large home with smoke, depositing soot everywhere. Repainting of some walls and ceilings might need to happen if covered with oily or greasy soot. This type of smoke residue discolors paint that otherwise remained unaffected during the fire.

With dry soot, such as that made by cellulose-fueled fires, wiping it off with a dry sponge can leave it clean, avoiding the need for repainting. Touching up might be all that we need to do to leave it “Like it never even happened.”

Making fire damage, no matter how extensive or isolated in your Copiague or Wyandanch residence, a thing of the past, SERVPRO of Amityville / Lindenhurst is committed to our communities. Call (631) 319-1680 for 24/ assistance.

How Deodorizing Tools Work After Fires in Amityville Homes

12/18/2019 (Permalink)

A SERVPRO truck parked in a parking lot. Amityville your fire damage needs SERVPRO’s tools and reliability.

SERVPRO has the time trained and tools to properly handle your Amityville fire damage.

After a fire gets extinguished in Amityville homes, the work of a professional restorer begins. Through careful inspection and scoping of the present damage in the property, our SERVPRO team can determine the most efficient and cost-effective approaches to restore and recover nearly every damaged area in the house. We even have an in-house team of licensed general contractors that can work on controlled demolition, full-scale reconstruction, and other emergency services that your damaged home needs.

Lingering odors can be one of the most challenging and stubborn fire damages in Amityville properties, especially if these effects have infiltrated porous surfaces like fabrics and drywall. Even without structural concerns, the existence of heavier saturation of smoke odors can be a struggle for our sophisticated tools to reach and neutralize. Choosing the right equipment is vital to eliminate smoke and charring odors permanently.

Ozone Generator

A portable version of our ozone chamber is one of the most versatile deodorization tools available to our SERVPRO professionals. These units create an unstable gas that contains three oxygen molecules (ozone.) This gas reacts with odor compounds by bonding with them and neutralizing it on contact. The production and presence of ozone are hazardous to living creatures, however, so the unit runs for a designated time and then has a chance to air out before our technicians return.

Hydroxyl Machine / Photocatalytic Oxidizer

Ultraviolet rays are another effective method for cleaning and deodorizing an environment. These machines use UV rays to generate hydroxyl radicals, which can break down existing foul odors in the area to a combination of carbon dioxide and water. This unit can treat a larger affected area with the appropriate containment barriers.

Air Scrubber

Often one of the most effective strategies for reducing the severity of odors after fires get extinguished is to filter the air in the damaged zones. Air scrubbers, and any other filtration equipment, pull dirty air through a HEPA filter in the machine to begin trapping particles, debris, and ash circulating in the room.

Fire odors can be a challenge to overcome, but our SERVPRO of Amityville / Lindenhurst team can help. We’re Faster To Any Size Disaster, and you can reach us 24/7 at (631) 319-1680.

We Have The Specialized Flood Damage Cleanup Crews Necessary In Lindenhurst

12/6/2019 (Permalink)

a ceiling caving in after flood damage struck Our storm damage technicians have the equipment and experience to restore your business to pre-damage condition.

We can Help You Reopen After Commercial Flood Damage Shuts Down Your Lindenhurst Movie Theater

Flooding is unlike a broken pipe, no matter how much water is involved. When a business in Lindenhurst floods, SERVPRO's technicians arrive soon after to start mitigation and restoration. Theaters pose unique challenges than what we see with most other businesses because of the sloped surface of the theater rooms' floor. However, our team members are both creative and dedicated to restoring our communities' businesses to preloss condition as swiftly as we can.

Flooding requires specialized cleanup crews like those at SERVPRO, who provide Lindenhurst businesses with commercial flood damage mitigation and restoration. Our building crews also provide much-needed services wherever reconstructing parts of your building needs to occur before patrons can flock back to the latest features.

The sloped floor that allows all of your patrons to view a movie easily lets floodwater run down toward the screen's location. Our submersible units, attached to our pump truck, extract this contaminated water out of the area. Depending on the materials making up your theater's floors, we might need to roll up carpet covering walkways. Larger pieces covering your lobby floor, bathrooms, and office space can require cutting into smaller pieces for smoother disposal. The easiest flooring to restore is sealed concrete, although it can require extended drying time.

To make drying take place as rapidly as possible, we elevate the heat. Flooring is not the only component that sustains flood damage. Upholstered seating can absorb moisture and odors, too, from the damp air. We dry these out and then sanitize them afterward, to ensure nothing affects your patrons' health or comfort. Drying rows and rows of seating in situ requires several of our powerful air movers to create adequate air movement through the area.

However, any padded seating directly saturated floodwaters often means you need to throw those units away. The more cost-effective option for more than a few might be replacing them, while thorough cleaning of only a few might cost less, overall. We discuss such options with our customers to provide them with the best results.

One thing that goes hand-in-hand with the movies is the smell of popcorn and other treats. Odors related to flooding can ruin this, so we take the time to work with you or your designated staff to eliminate these. Fogging and other deodorizing methods can leave the entire theater smelling new and pristine.

SERVPRO of Amityville / Lindenhurst's specialists receive training in the restoration and mitigation of all types of businesses. Our expertise means your Copiague, Farmingdale, or Wyandanch theater reopens as soon as possible. Our 24-hour emergency services number is (631) 319-1680, and We're Faster To Any Size Disaster, making a recovery fast and painless.

SERVPRO Green Vehicles Parked and on the Job Amityville Property Owners Breathe a Sigh of Relief When the SERVPRO Green Fleet Swiftly Arrives for Water Loss Mitigation

Here is Why Amityville Property Owners Rely on SERVPRO for Water Loss Mitigation

Dealing with water incidents at your home or business can sometimes require expensive or technical equipment. We have a combined knowledge and experience base that spans over forty years in water restoration services. Our teams work in substantial loss recovery and storm damages across the country as well as here in Long Island. As such, there is no job too big or too small for SERVPRO of Amityville / Lindenhurst, and We're Faster To Any Size Disaster. If you are a resident or a business owner in Long Island in need of water removal, water damage restoration, storm damage, or water cleanup, contact us today.

Water Removal
At some point in your life as a homeowner, you may need professional water removal services in Amityville to get your house back in order with minimum expense. Our team of trained servicemen and women at SERVPRO can help to limit losses by acting fast to negate the effects of water on the structure and contents of your home. Using innovative techniques, we can remove not only excess moisture but also prevent unnecessary damages from occurring. Sometimes, we can restore a property without causing further abrasive harm to items like carpets, floorboards, and contents.

One non-invasive technique for drying floors is by using flat lay drying or large 6-mil thick poly sheets. Flatlay drying may be useful in situations where flooring is exposed to moisture for less than 72 hours. This method does not require the removal of floorboards or clearing of the affected area before use. We find that Amityville homeowners can benefit from the convenience of non-invasive drying techniques, which can also cause less damage to the surrounding area from a spill and less inconvenience to a homeowner.

Flatlay drying works on the principle of creating a smaller, contained drying area within the affected structure. SERVPRO technicians seal the affected area using waterproof tape and plastic sheeting. In effect, we create a "tent" that reduces the treatment area while also limiting the circulation of excess moisture to other areas of the structurer. We can then fit a rapid air mover with a hose inside the smaller drying zone. Doing so allows us to decrease drying times and gain greater control over psychrometrics- the balance of temperature, moisture, and air. At SERVPRO, our restoration services are focused on providing techniques that suit each individual job-site, and each Amityville homeowner.

Water Cleanup
Restoration services like ours offer water cleanup for Amityville residents that encompass both drying and damage prevention. Moisture contains microbes that, without proper cleaning, can deteriorate into serious property issues like mold growth, rot, or malodors. When water is spilled in your home, it not only introduces microbes into the affected area but also interacts with soiling that may have been unnoticeable previously. SERVPRO restoration services can dry your property thoroughly while cleaning and disinfecting the area.

Areas that may be of particular concern to Amityville homeowners could be carpets, which, after exposure to moisture, can cause the fibers to become flat or lifeless. SERVPRO has a full-range of topical treatments for carpets that can help to enhance fibers, and most can be applied to both wet and dry fabrics. Usually, when applying topical treatments, your SERVPRO technician can mix in deodorants as well as anti-microbial treatments to further protect your home.

Valuable fabrics in the property may be only suitable for dry-cleaning. SERVPRO can use solvent-based topical treatments like Upholstery and Carpet Guard Plus to dry-clean only fabrics or on natural fabrics to reduce drying times for Amityville homeowners. Our water-based topical treatments cover leather, vinyl, rubber, and plastic as well as water-safe fabrics. SERVPRO can also apply fire-retardants for synthetic or natural fibers. Whatever items you may have in your home during a water-related emergency, we have the correct treatments and cleaners to bring your Amityville home back to a preloss condition. For atypical drying, we can recommend a third-party to ensure our customers receive the best service possible.

Water Damage
You may require restoration services for water damage in your Amityville home after large quantities of water have entered, or there is a fault with your internal plumbing and appliances. These situations can deteriorate quickly without due care and attention, especially when fabrics or contents are affected.

In some cases, a longstanding water issue may only become apparent at a later stage. You may notice yellowing, odor, or discoloration of paintwork. You should always seek a responsible restoration service to address the immediate damages and prevent further harm.

SERVPRO technicians are equipped to remove large quantities of water from the home as well as providing vital cleaning and drying services. The most effective method of limiting damages is by drying a structure using extractors, air-movers, and dehumidification equipment. However, once immediate damage risks are under control, SERVPRO can provide a resolute cleaning plan to get your Amityville home back to its preloss condition, "Like it never even happened." Our service trucks are equipped with both machinery and cleaning chemicals to cover all aspects of the water restoration service. Trained in the best practices and guidelines of the IICRC--Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification, assures our customers of top-tier services.

Reversing staining or soiling can be achieved using efficient cleaning equipment alongside specialized chemical cleaning agents. SERVPRO technicians are adept at finding the right cleaning solution for each problem they encounter. Carpets can be shampooed, treated, and then mechanically cleaned using rotary floor machines. This equipment can also be applied to non-fabric flooring to ensure any residual staining left behind by water is fully restored.

Storm Damage
Storm damage in your Amityville home can strike at any time, causing excessive flooding. These scenarios can often become complicated by the contamination levels of floodwater, which is known in restoration services as a Black Water emergency. SERVPRO is a fully-licensed black water restorer and can perform the steps required to return your home to a clean, safe environment that is free from harmful human pathogens up to the disinfection level. You can contact us on our twenty four hour emergency line to arrange a service as soon as possible after flooding.

The complications arising from water contamination can result in elements of structure, carpeting, contents, and valuables becoming infected with potentially harmful substances. These substances may include raw sewage, animal carcass, herbicides as well as pesticides. Unfortunately, in many cases, items of the home need to be replaced to reduce the risk of cross-contamination. Items that are primarily affected are those made from porous materials such as drywall, fabrics, wall-paper, carpeting, and some furnishings.

Porous items are more susceptible to irreparable damage because they can absorb contaminants in moisture. SERVPRO can perform controlled demolitions of structural components like drywall during the restoration service. These items must be sealed inside biohazardous waste bags and disposed of in a proper waste facility. We can then disinfect the remaining areas of the home using industrial cleaners before replacing infected materials with new, clean materials. Our restoration service incorporates deodorization of the home to tackle any lingering malodors that remain.

If your home is a victim of water emergencies related to flooding, water damage, and water cleanup, or you require water removal service, contact SERVPRO of Amityville / Lindenhurst at (631) 319-1680 today.

Dealing with Flood Damage in Lindenhurst

High tide water and winds create a potential for flooding in coastal towns like Lindenhurst. After the floodwater recedes, it is crucial to assess the damage and remove sludge, mud, and dangerous debris from your residence as quickly as possible. The floodwater is rarely just water. With the groundwater, often comes chemicals, sewage, bacteria, viruses, and more.

The professionals at SERVPRO can help with flood damage in Lindenhurst and neighboring areas. Our trained technicians are available to safely and effectively clean up the mess left behind from a flood. Our fast response minimizes secondary damage and home restoration costs. We're Faster To Any Size Disaster. However, there are some things you, as the homeowner, can do immediately to help salvage items from the residence.

Relocate valuables from the wall, tabletops, and floor to a dry place within the home. Remove excess water by mopping and soaking up as much as possible. Move anything that might become damaged by moisture, be extra careful around electrical cords. Turn on the air conditioning if the flood is in the summer to ensure maximum drying.

Do not leave any colored items on the floor. Colors can bleed onto surfaces. Do not use anything requiring electricity, including television and other household appliances that are situated in the affected area of the home. The power for impacted areas of the home may need to be cut off to ensure safety.

When SERVPRO professionals arrive, often the leader is a project manager, they scope the damage and create a plan. Part of the drying and restoration process often includes a flood cut. When there is contaminated black or gray water, wet insulation, or mold growth, it is necessary to remove part of the wall. It is a controlled demolition in which technicians remove lower levels of damaged sheetrock.

To ensure no lingering flood damage several inches above the visible damage (also identified with moisture meters) is cut from the wall. After the cut, a technician removes any of the soggy drywall material. The exposed area can now be inspected, cleaned, and dried before the replacement of the sheetrock. The goal is to restore the home to preloss condition by replacing the wallboards and adequately drying, disinfecting with an antimicrobial product, and deodorizing the home.

When flood damage occurs, contact SERVPRO of Amityville / Lindenhurst at (631) 319-1680 twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. We make it "Like it never even happened."

How to Find the Right Flood Damage Remediation Service For Your Amityville Home

Dangers of Inadequate Flood Damage Mitigation and Remediation in Amityville

Up and down the Eastern Seaboard seasonal storms, including the residual winds and rain of hurricanes, can cause significant damage. Amityville’s location on the southwest Long Island shore puts it in the path of these weather systems and the flooding they bring. If your home takes on water during one of these storms, it is critical to get the help needed. Removal of all moisture is vital to prevent the risk of progressive harm to both structural components and contents.

Water Migrates and Does Hidden Damage

When you inspect the flood damage in your Amityville home, be cautious. What you see collected in your basement or lower levels might not be the entirety of the problem. Water seeks an outlet, seeping through cracks and moving through porous materials like drywall. The cinder block construction typical in many foundations also offers flood water numerous empty cells to fill. If this hidden standing water remains unaddressed, progressive deterioration of building materials occurs.

Microbial Growth a Real Concern

The SERVPRO team knows floodwaters can contain human and animal waste, filled with potentially hazardous pathogens including bacteria and viruses. The moisture can activate mold spores found in almost all environments, including the flooded areas of your home. If contaminated water remains trapped, the chances of a microbial growth explosion are high. Although the multiplication of the organisms begins behind walls, under floors, or over ceilings, they eventually make their way into living and storage areas. A noxious smell is a signal that trouble brews unseen. The health of your family can be impaired by unchecked microbial growth. Organic structural materials also suffer breakdown as molds and mildew consume the surfaces upon which they live.

We Find and Remove Trapped Flood Water

The Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC)-trained crews SERVPRO sends to assist employ sensitive moisture detection equipment. We scan with thermal imaging cameras to locate trapped caches of floodwater, relying on discrepancies in temperature as clues. Once we establish the migration pathways, we get to work releasing, containing, and lawfully disposing of the water.

Disinfection a Must

SERVPRO crews have at our disposal highly effective and EPA-registered disinfectants and cleaners. These products inhibit the growth of molds and have approved kill rates for the pathogens found in floodwaters. When added to the menu of flood water removal and structural drying we offer, your flood-damaged home remediates to preloss condition.

SERVPRO Can Clean the HVAC Systems of Your Fire Damaged Lindenhurst Business Quickly

10/5/2019 (Permalink)

Several HVAC units HVAC units can spread smoke and soot throughout your business. Call SERVPRO to restore your business quickly.

Cleaning Up Affected HVAC Systems of Commercial Manufacturing Sites with Fire Damage in Lindenhurst

Synthetics produce toxic black smoke when burning. This smoke and the oils and other aerosolized gases can permeate any porous materials in your Lindenhurst plant. Your carpeting, paperboard, acoustic tiles, showroom draperies, and wood and concrete structures can continually get dirty from newly deposited particles. Some come from the ceiling, but an HVAC system's ducts can harbor many of these that became trapped during the fire.

When a business in Lindenhurst calls about commercial fire damage, we know that the HVAC system can play a significant role in how permanent our efforts turn out for that specific site. Our building services crew handles the HVAC system's cleaning.

Our restoration team wants to start working on clearing away soot and cleaning up surfaces right away, but we also want a clean environment as we work. A hydroxyl generator can clean smoke and soot contaminants out of the air quickly and does not require waiting for it to take effect. We can work while it is running, unlike ozone generators. To keep your plant's interior free of new soot deposits, our HVAC team also starts working on removing anything inside the ducts.

In some factories, there are locations within the ventilation ducts that cannot come clean with the usual methods. When this occurs, we can still make the system free of contaminants. Sealing the inside of the ducts keeps contaminants from entering your facility. We use an ultra-low volume (ULV) fogger to fill the ducts with aerosolized sealant.

Starting where the air leaves the HVAC system and enters the ducts, we force the fog into the system. Intermittent bursts prevent drips and streaking. Then, beginning at one of the air intake vents, our HVAC technicians direct the sealant inward sporadically. Once done at one vent, we perform the same technique at another. Room temperature air dries the sealant and keeps any further particles from coming loose and entering the air your employees breathe, using only the blower on the lowest setting,

SERVPRO of Amityville / Lindenhurst wants everyone to enjoy a clean working environment. We start cleaning as soon as possible, making things safe for ourselves and your employees. Fire damage causes both visible and hidden damage to factories in Wyandanch and Farmingdale, but we are prepared to handle all of it for you. Call us at our 24-hour emergency line, (631) 319-1680, any day of the year.

How SERVPRO Restorers Recover Amityville Homes and Businesses

9/25/2019 (Permalink)

SERVPRO vans in a parking lot. Let us help you get your Amityville community back in order after a devastation.

We will show you all you need to know for your Amityville location.

Establishing and maintaining your reputation in Amityville and its surrounding areas is not something that happens easily. We have worked for years to gain credibility with our customers and showcase our ability to exceed the expectations of our clients for their homes and businesses. We have earned our place among the premier cleaning and restoration companies in the region. In this pursuit for customer loyalty, our entire SERVPRO team has evolved into a restoration service provider that can offer recovery solutions in every niche of our industry. The bulk of our work still falls with water, fire, mold, and storm loss incidents.

Water

Water loss situations are common threats that often get underestimated and misdiagnosed in their severity. Without sophisticated discovery devices like thermohygrometers and infrared imagery, many Amityville property owners have no real understanding of the spread or saturation of exposed materials and inaccessible areas of their home or business. Our SERVPRO professionals utilize these tools not only to gain a non-invasive understanding of the spread of water effects throughout a property but also to check our progress and verify successes once we believe drying has been completed.

Specific materials are most at risk from exposure to standing water and spreading moisture. Water damage in Amityville homes can often concentrate on areas like your drywall and wood flooring, allowing both of these materials to absorb substantial volumes until they swell, distort, and deteriorate. We have drying mats and other specialized tools that can help to protect these elements when possible.

Improper drying is a situation our professionals often address in Amityville homes after unprofessional and unlicensed restoration work has taken place. We can quickly identify lingering concerns and work with our powerful drying tools and antimicrobial solution to both restore the damage and work to limit the possibility of mold growth.

Fire

The recovery of fire loss incidents cannot often happen as quickly as they occurred in your Amityville home, and that is partially due to the multiple layers of hazardous and threatening effects to contend with spanning the entire property. Our team must address symptoms related to excessive heat, combustion, smoke, and soot, all of which require specialized equipment, products, and practices.

Because of our extensive training and certifications through the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC), including accreditations as Fire & Smoke Restoration Technicians (FSRT) and Odor Control Technicians (OCT), we can offer a knowledgeable and confident response to even significant loss incidents that affect Amityville homes. We encourage our fire recovery team to pursue multiple endorsements with the IICRC, as this can provide our customers with technicians that can single-handedly address all symptoms and effects of a recent fire, including water cleanup and structural drying.

Fire damage in Amityville homes and businesses can spread rapidly, posing a risk to the contents of your property. We have a full-service content management division that works independently from the recovery in your house to remove affected items to a safe location nearby. In our care, these removed possessions can get focused cleaning, deodorization, and safe storage in a climate-controlled environment.

Mold

We consistently strive to be among the premier remediation choices for the entire state of New York, and that starts with addressing the often-widespread mold damage in Amityville properties throughout specific humid points in the year. With many properties constructed with subterranean levels, it can be a challenge for these areas to get adequate sunlight and ventilation required to prevent ideal conditions for mold colonization entirely. Blockwork bleeds moisture over time, especially in the areas most prone to in-ground springs and dampness.

With tourism a big part of the revenue that the area depends on, you cannot allow your restaurant or store to succumb to excessive humidity, either. While it might be difficult at first to spot colonization in your property, suspecting its presence can be enough to warrant our inspection and testing. You can count on our SERVPRO team to offer genuine and honest assessments and only encourage remediation when mold damage threatens your Amityville structure.

Many of the homes in the Amityville area got constructed decades ago, and to protect your investments and the original materials, we have specialized approaches for remediation like soda blasting. These machines can remove the organism and kill mold spores without damaging the material hosting the colony.

Storm

With our positioning against Great South Bay and the whole of the Atlantic Ocean, Amityville homes and businesses remain at nearly constant risk for substantially damaging weather events in every season of the year. From heavy snowfalls to hurricanes, our SERVPRO team has become equipped to handle it with confidence and the full measure of our parental company and nearby franchises when the need arises.

Flooding is a typical threat following structural storm damage to Amityville properties, and these conditions must be addressed immediately. With a 24-hour emergency line our customers can reach, they are always within moments of getting our professionals mobilized and in route to recover damages and threats to a property – even amid the storm. We arrive with a broad array of extraction tools that we can tailor to the specific depth and severity of standing water on the premises from wet-vacs to gas-powered trash pumps.

We Can Handle Any Size Disaster In Lindenhurst

If Your Home Has One of These, Lack of Maintenance Can Bring Fire Damage to Your Lindenhurst Home

Many homes have fireplaces, and even if used occasionally, the need for regular maintenance is crucial to prevent fire damage. The culprit in many fires of this type is a creosote buildup in the chimney. Creosote is a byproduct of burning wood and is sticky, difficult to remove, and ignites easily. Fortunately, this type of fire loss is preventable with the regular removal of the buildup of combustible materials in the home's chimney and ensuring the damper functions properly.

When SERVPRO technicians clean up fire damage in Lindenhurst homes where the fire originated from the fireplace, they pay special attention to the smoke damage on various surfaces in the house. As fire consumes objects, different types of residues get left behind, and each has its own unique requirements for proper cleansing for the best outcome.

Smoke Damage Brick is Often Restorable

After a fire loss event, homeowners do not have to resign themselves to living with blackened brickwork around the fireplace. Although unsealed brick is porous, it often has restoration potential upon the application of the correct cleaning methods. While traditional liquid solutions can drive soot deeper into brickwork, professional-grade acid-based cleaners work to release and dissolve the residue for easy wiping away.

OSHA-Based Training

Using knowledge and methods approved and taught by OSHA, SERVPRO technicians safely turn around fire loss in the home with the expert use of cleaners and techniques to eliminate soot and smoke damage from homes.

Smoke Odors Eliminated from Carpet

When fire damage occurs in a carpeted room, as hot air expands the smoke and odors get driven into porous objects and carpet is no exception. Fortunately, unless the fibers received damage from charring, the carpet frequently has restoration potential through deep cleaning and odor control methods to return it to its preloss condition.

SERVPRO of Amityville / Lindenhurst is available 24/7 by calling (631) 319-1680 for cleanup and restoration services from fire damage in your home. No matter if the fire loss is small or large, We're Faster to Any Size Disaster.

What Few People Know About Water Damage Remediation in Amityville

Water Damage Amityville – Moving and Storing Contents

Water leaks can cause a great deal of disruption, not to mention damage to flooring, walls, and the contents of a client's home. Many events are relatively small in terms of the amount of water. The client can turn off the main water valve to the home or at least stop the leak before too much water spreads throughout the home. Even with small amounts of water, entire rooms may require water removal and cleaning as well as your contents removed.

SERVPRO crew chiefs have a great deal of experience dealing with water damage events in Amityville. The team understands that the client wants their home restored as fast as possible with minimal disruption. We aim to provide this service and meet the customer's expectations.

Where Should Your Contents be Stored

We prefer to move items after being cleaned and dried to another part of the home. Your contents could be moved to another room or even the garage while restoring your home.  Moving items within the home is the preferred approach since it minimizes the time required to complete the job. Also, there is less chance of damage while in SERVPRO's staging area.

Mats are always laid down on your floors for protection and avoid transferring moisture and soiling to unaffected areas. Furniture is placed on blocks to avoid marking the floor or transferring moisture.

Moving Heavy Items

We often move heavy items to another room. For example, if the water damage is in the kitchen, the fridge may need to be emptied to avoid spillage inside it and moved to a dry location. We use protective floor mats while moving the fridge as well as protecting the floor in the storage location. We make sure that your perishable items are placed back inside the fridge and that the fridge is always plugged in so it can continue doing its job. The same applies to freezers if affected.

SERVPRO looks after all of your needs and returns your home to its original condition, "Like it never even happened."

Call SERVPRO of Amityville / Lindenhurst at (631) 319-1680 for 24/7 serve. We serve the towns of Copiague, Farmingdale, Wyandanch, and surrounding areas. We're Faster To Any Size Disaster.

Our Experts Can Save Your Home In Lindenhurst After A Water Damage Disaster

Why SERVPRO Is Lindenhurst’s Water Damage Recovery Choice

Common causes of water loss in Lindenhurst are minor plumbing leaks, appliance malfunctions, tub or sink overflows, and spills. These scenarios are not dramatic, like ruptures of water mains or overland flooding. You might feel as though you should be able to clean up these water events without help, but such an approach is not advisable. Let our experts help to be sure that the crisis is completely averted.

Water Can Migrate in a Short Time
Water damage in your Lindenhurst home is rarely a tidy matter. Liquid water leaked or spilled keeps moving, seeping through cracks and collecting in building cavities. You might believe that mopping up the puddle under a sink or dropping a bath towel on a shower overspray cleans up all the water. Unfortunately, your belief is likely wrong. The proof arises days or weeks later with a whiff of a musty smell signaling mold growth under the cabinet or a collection of dark stains on the ceiling below the bathtub. Training and experience in tracing the migration are why our help is invaluable.

Moisture Meters and Thermal Imaging
Advancements in technology allow Lindenhurst water damage to head towards a full resolution. Dedication is why SERVPRO’s Institute of Inspection Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC)-trained technicians are experts in using thermal imaging to locate recesses in building cavities where leaked and spilled water collected. Once the trapped water is pinpointed, we choose a technique to release it. Water in a ceiling bulge might need a few weep holes carefully drilled or punched to let the fluid escape. A more substantial cache of water at floor level behind a wall might require a flood cut several inches above the water line to extract it and open the space for drying.

High Efficiency and Specialized Equipment
Bailing out a basement is not practical, which is why SERVPRO invests in submersible pumps and truck-mounted extractors. The efficiency of consumer versions is much less, and most households do not have them on hand. You need to purchase and learn to use them at a turbulent time.

We devote ourselves to water damage recovery, why SERVPRO of Amityville / Lindenhurst can help residents quickly restore a wet mess to “Like it never even happened.” Call our trained and well-equipped experts at (631) 319-1680 for a successful outcome when water damage is an issue.

How to Choose The Correct Company For Flood Damage Remediation in Your Amityville Business

8/20/2019 (Permalink)

Treadmills and other exercise equipment along the windows of a room in a fitness gym; dumbells on a rack on the opposite wall Don't let your Amityville gym be shut down forever due to flood damage. Call the professionals at SERVPRO today for remediation assistance.

Faster Recovery when Commercial Flood Damage Affects Your Gym in Amityville

Many health enthusiasts enjoy working out at the local gym. Returning to work at their Amityville job after spending lunch hour exercising becomes a habit for many when patrons can take a shower on-site. However, saving time never means cutting corners when it comes to exposure to microbes that might cause unwanted health effects. Your showering facilities need to meet high standards for cleanliness at all times.

Helping cover all facets that affect your Amityville gym after commercial flood damage includes cleaning shower and locker room facilities to working order. Your own staff only needs to reopen the doors to let patrons in upon our completion of the mitigation and cleaning. We take care of everything else, from cleaning up debris and disinfecting surfaces.

We work with our building services crew members, as well, in providing our customers with the services their commercial buildings require to reach preloss condition again. They work with you on the bulk laundry of towels, robes, and other items, reinstalling ruined flooring, and making necessary repairs to the electrical system. Our specialists work on cleaning vertical surfaces marred by floodwater and pulling ruined materials away from the structure's frame.

We also spend time re-situating your business' furnishings from the wastebaskets at the front desk to laundry baskets between the shower stalls and the changing room area. Anything that helps put your business back together and makes it look and feel “Like it never even happened,” means your staff needs to do that much less.

Flooding can also leave behind severely distracting odors. Our Odor Control Technician (OCT) understands where the source of these smells hide and uses effective methods to eliminate them. Because locker rooms often have strong odors from different sources, many people typically respond positively to slow-release gels in these areas. Other locations, like the lobby, might respond sufficiently with one-time treatments with a fogger or hydroxyl generator.

SERVPRO of Amityville / Lindenhurst's dedication to our local communities, particularly in Copiague, Farmingdale, and Wyandanch ensure that the effects of flood damage and other disasters are short-lived and felt only temporarily. Call us at (631) 319-1680 when an emergency threatens your business with permanent closure.

Flooded Crawlspace in Amityville Home? Do Not Ignore It! Contact SERVPRO for Removal and Drying

8/8/2019 (Permalink)

Yep, Our Amityville Crawlspace Is Flooded, Hurry Mildred, and Call SERVPRO

What Should You Do When Flood Damage Affects the Crawlspace in Your Amityville Home?

Flood damage often happens with little to no warning, and once it occurs, the removal of the water must follow as fast as possible. In this way, homeowners avoid costly secondary issues such as mold or damage to their building structure. Not to mention, very unpleasant musty odors that can permeate the entire structure if left unchecked.

When SERVPRO handles flood damage to an Amityville crawlspace, our first action is to extract the water. If the levels in the crawlspace are more than a couple of inches deep, we have submersible pumps, so there is no delay in beginning water cleanup efforts. Often a flooded crawlspace is a symptom of a more significant problem allowing water into the area. Our technicians have the training to identify the issue and recommend repairs to remedy the following common reasons crawlspaces flood:

?    Cracked foundation
?    Faulty design in home drainage
?    Faulty sump pump
?    Drainage damaged or not working properly
?    Landscape directing the water into the property

Once water is in the crawlspace, if there is procrastination in the cleanup, the increased humidity and lack of ventilation often create perfect conditions for mold infestations, which can begin as soon as 24-hours after the first water intrusion event.

The goal of SERVPRO technicians is to remove the water and lower the ambient humidity as fast as possible. We accomplish this with our air movers used in tandem with commercial dehumidifiers. After completion of water extraction and drying, we measure the area to ensure humidity levels are below ideal conditions for mold development. It is standard practice for us to clean the walls and other crawlspace areas with an antimicrobial cleaner to inhibit the growth mold colonies further.

Contaminated water from a storm in a crawlspace can result in degraded indoor air quality for the above living quarters of the structure. Often encapsulation, placing poly sheeting to cover the soil in the crawlspace, and a permanently vented dehumidifier can decrease the likelihood of mold growth and structural damage.

Make sure flood damage does not get the upper hand in your home. Contact SERVPRO of Amityville / Lindenhurst at (631) 319-1680, and our skilled technicians can make the water damage in your home "Like it never even happened."

How to Make The Best Out of Fire Damage Remediation in Your Lindenhurst Residence

8/4/2019 (Permalink)

Fire damage can wreak havoc on all your belongings. Call the professionals at SERVPRO today for remediation assistance.

Our Warehouse's Layout Makes Recovering from Fire Damage Easier for Families in Lindenhurst

Part of the problem that families in Lindenhurst experience after a fire involves the contents of their home, and in particular, their most valuable possessions. Objects passed down from earlier generations or other significant people, awards, and mementos are only a fraction of the irreplaceable belongings found in most homes. Restoring as many of these as possible for our customers requires more than equipment and skills – we also need dedicated space to make this possible.

Helping families in Lindenhurst recover from fire damage in a timely manner is possible because of the way we set up our warehouse. The different areas help our skilled technicians use the necessary equipment to work quickly. Containing several different well-defined areas, we can efficiently process the contents of your home. Keeping each stage of the restoration process separate from the other steps helps us eliminate cross-contamination from dust, soot, and other soiling. It also cuts down unproductive repetitiveness that lengthens the time before we could return those belongings to the customer.

A variety of distinct chambers and spaces all help SERVPRO technicians keep track of your items, as well the stage of each item. When you need to know a particular item's location, we can look that up and tell you. The warehouse's layout also helps us manage damaged items that you and your insurance adjuster need to discuss before we continue the cleaning and restoration process. Some adjusters opt to replace to gain the full benefits of new items over others that may have needed replacing in a short time, regardless of the fire's occurrence.

  • A cleaning and deodorization section where our specialists use different methods to remove soot and other soiling typical to fire-damaged contents. We also check for breakage that might have gone undetected previously,
  • an ozone chamber for items that still require some work before we consider them suitable to return to our customer, this area remains enclosed to trap the ozone inside so other areas of the warehouse stay fully functional,
  • a drying chamber for any wet items that, when first arriving, show no signs of soot, but hold moisture from the firefighters' visit. Items that we clean with wet methods also end up here, to finish the restoration process,
  • a soiled storage area is the first stop for most items, where we check inventory sheets and ensure that no hazards like liquids leaking or broken, sharp edges exist, and
  • a cleaned storage space, placed away from the soiled storage area, contains items ready to go back to the customer's home.

Not all contents follow the same path through our warehouse, but SERVPRO of Amityville / Lindenhurst knows how to restore your belongings, helping make everything “Like it never even happened,” fast. Call us for fire damage restoration at (631) 319-1680 when your Copiague, Farmingdale, or Wyandanch property needs disaster recovery.

Our Specialists Discuss The Dangers Of Improper Water Cleanup In Lindenhurst

7/24/2019 (Permalink)

We are available 24/7 by calling (631) 319-1680.

Risks Of Improper Water Cleanup In Lindenhurst Homes

As much as our professionals have always encouraged and believed in the competency of our customers and the residents of the Lindenhurst area, the cleanup and drying of a water loss incident is not as straightforward as it may seem. The longer that one of these situations waits for resolution, the worse it becomes. This spreading damage is not always apparent on the surface, however. Often conditions inside of affected and saturated materials are far worse than what the visible portions of the structural elements might suggest.

With the employment of the right equipment and practices, you can accomplish even complex water cleanup in Lindenhurst homes. Failure to adequately dry up damaged areas and materials, however, can lead to more severe consequences. Our SERVPRO professionals have sophisticated equipment to check on the progress of drying efforts throughout mitigation and recovery, which can help to identify moisture pockets and present dampness. There are three primary risks to inadequate cleaning and drying:

Structural Deterioration
Prolonged moisture damage can allow for an almost continual degradation and deterioration of exposed and saturated materials.

Microbial Growth
Another considerable risk of poorly managed water cleanup is the facilitation of mold and microbial growth.

Costlier Recovery
When you combine the first two reasons, and not even addressing your likely need for professional restoration like our SERVPRO team provides, the damage to your home becomes a much costlier situation to recover than it might have been initially.

The better you can understand the risks of improper cleanup, the more prepared you can become to ensure the job gets done the first time correctly. If you are ever in doubt, you can count on our SERVPRO of Amityville / Lindenhurst team. We are available 24/7 by calling (631) 319-1680.

Why SERVPRO Uses Advanced Equipment to Fight Mold Damage in Affected Lindenhurst Homes

7/14/2019 (Permalink)

Let us fight your Lindenhurst mold issues.

SERVPRO knows how to knock mold right out!

Presence of mold colonies in a house can pose health risks and contribute to the deterioration of the structure, among other things. Tracing the source of the infestation and cleaning out the mold debris is essential for the restoration process, but it can be time-consuming or challenging depending on the extent of the infestation. Using advanced equipment to manage different aspects of the damage helps.

Apart from infestations that develop after the incidence of water loss, other cases of mold damage affecting Lindenhurst homes indicate an underlying moisture problem. Failure to fix such a problem can lead to recurrence even after cleaning all the mold colonies. Advanced moisture detection equipment help in the tracing of moisture in materials, ensuring that steps to dry them can be taken. Our SERVPRO technicians use moisture meters, moisture sensors with probes, and even thermal cameras to trace wet areas. We also fix minor leaks to cut the moisture supply.

Mold produces considerable debris from the multiplication of spores and the deterioration of the materials that it affects. Such debris can transfer from the affected areas to other parts of the house as people move in and out or through air currents. Creating physical barriers between the affected areas and the rest of the house using plastic sheets can help, but it might not be sufficient. Using sophisticated equipment such as negative air pressure systems offers a guarantee against debris transfer. SERVPRO technicians use negative air exhaust fans and negative air fan scrubbers with HEPA filtration to manage debris during the restoration process.

Mold is associated with a musty smell that can make your home feel uncomfortable. The smell develops from the chemical reactions that occur during the development of mold colonies. In case of severe infestations, the smell might linger even after cleaning all traces of mold necessitating specific deodorization steps. Our SERVPRO technicians use a wide variety of equipment to deal with odor problems, including:

Air Scrubbers

Venting Box Fans

Dry Fogging Equipment

Wet Fogging Equipment

For proper remediation of mold issues in Amityville, Copiague, and Farmingdale, call SERVPRO of Amityville / Lindenhurst to assist. You can reach us any time at (631) 319-1680. Our advanced equipment helps handle any aspect of the damage "Like it never even happened."

Summer Storms Can Cause Flood Damage To Your Amityville Home

6/19/2019 (Permalink)

Count on SERVPRO of Amityville / Lindenhurst to make flood damage “Like it never even happened.”

Significant Amityville Flood Damage Possible During Summer Storms

Now more than ever, residents of coastal areas like those living in Amityville risk flooding of lower levels during summer storms. Sea levels are on the rise around Long Island, increasing the possibility that heavy rain and high winds might combine with storm surge to damage homes. Flooding recovery involves many tasks completed most successfully by professionals with the training and specialized equipment to get the job done fast.

When homeowners in Amityville struggle with flood damage in basements, crawl spaces, or other lower levels in their dwellings, reliable remediation services are critically needed. We invest in the people and the heavy-duty equipment necessary to return homes in our community to preloss condition. Our technicians complete rigorous training sponsored by the Institute of Inspection Cleaning and Reconstruction Certification (IICRC), mastering reconstruction industry best practices in water categorization, containment, and removal as well as structural drying and disinfection. The equipment we employ is state-of-the-art, able to manage large water losses rapidly and thoroughly.

When extreme weather hits your home, water can flood the interior from many sources. Winds and falling trees and structures rip off or crush roofing materials, break windows, and tear away siding, allowing rain to intrude. Flash flooding pushes rainwater across pavement and ground, picking up dirt, chemicals, and human and animal waste. The contaminated water then rushes and seeps in through cracks and porous foundations. The Atlantic Ocean’s waters add to the mix during storm surges, adding highly corrosive salts, minerals, and dangerous debris to flood waters. SERVPRO crews are prepared to help you recover from this amalgam of hazardous substances.

SERVPRO’s experienced project manager assesses the flood damage and devises a plan to remove the contaminated water safely, clean and disinfect surfaces, and dry out the affected spaces. Our technicians put the plan into action immediately as our service vehicles always stock the equipment needed to contain and remove flood waters and dry out the structure. If salt water is a concern, our team employs appropriate flushing procedure to prevent accelerated defibration of wood, rusting of metal, and breakdown of concrete and cinder blocks.

Count on SERVPRO of Amityville / Lindenhurst to make flood damage “Like it never even happened.” Call us at (631) 319-1680 to schedule an assessment.

Why Hiring SERVPRO Is Your Best Option After A Fire In Your Amityville Home

6/4/2019 (Permalink)

Call (631) 319-1680 as soon as your property is released by officials so we can assess, plan, and begin abatement.

The Difference Professional  Remediation Makes For Your Fire Damaged Amityville Home

A fire in your Amityville dwelling is a life-changing event. Fear for the safety of your family competes with the confusion and helplessness you feel surveying the extent of the damage. Homeowners do not know which part of the damage to address first, concerned that any attempts they make to fix the situation might make the harm even worse. Our skilled crews have the training and the experience to make it “Like it never even happened.”

Fire damage in your Amityville home is corrosive, causing progressively more severe destruction the longer it goes unabated. Our technicians prepare to help with your project by attending the Institute of Inspection Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC) courses, mastering effective fire damage mitigation strategies, and the industry’s best practices. Crew members hold multiple certifications including Fire and Smoke Restoration Technician (FSRT), Odor Control Technician (OCT), and Upholstery and Fabric Cleaning Technician (UFT).

Because water damage from fire fighting efforts is present after almost every blaze, SERVPRO’s Water Damage Restoration Technicians (WRT) begin the remediation process. Water damage is equally as devastating to your home as fire damage, and removing water first is an important safety requirement. Extracting the water and drying the structure, minimizing slip and fall and electric shock potential as other fire damage cleanup proceeds.

Our team is familiar with the range of different types of sooty deposits likely on surfaces. SERVPRO service vehicles stock tools and products to manage the residues in your dwelling. We expect to match more than one kind of soot with the most effective strategy as the soiling varies space to space depending on the fuels burned. Ashy soot from a hot, fast wood or paper blaze vacuums and dry sponges away. Kitchen fires produce protein-based soot that is nearly invisible but clings tenaciously to all surfaces. Solvents and abrasive tools release the coating, and deodorization is crucial as this type of residue is highly odiferous.

Electrical fires and smoldering fabric or padding lay down a thick, sticky type of soot that requires agitation and a cleaner with surfactants and wetting agents to loosen. SERVPRO technicians select the appropriate approach for each kind of damage, avoiding smearing and grinding in the residues.

SERVPRO of Amityville / Lindenhurst offers both trained technicians and state-of-the-art equipment to remediate fire damage. Call (631) 319-1680 as soon as your property is released by officials so we can assess, plan, and begin abatement.

Amityville Water Loss Mitigation Means a Call to SERVPRO

5/23/2019 (Permalink)

SERVPRO's Advanced Detection Equipment Can Help to Mitigate Water Damage in Amityville Properties

Fast Drying Solutions for Damp Amityville Basements

As a part of the Long Island area, Amityville residents are all too familiar with the damp and moist conditions common to basements and cellars. Regardless of the time of year, and even without situations like flooding, this lower level of the property can still end up damaged without the appropriate response from qualified professionals. Our team has the expertise to address not only the immediate effects of this situation but also the source of the moisture and dampness to prevent recurrences in the immediate future.

Persistent moisture can lead to secondary harm like microbial growth on top of the water damage that your Amityville home can experience. In many cases, homeowners are unaware of how severe the situation has become due to the light foot traffic that basements and cellars can often receive. Once the damp conditions get discovered, it can often be after mold has started to form or structural and material degradation has already started to take root.

Our SERVPRO professionals have multiple options for fast drying solutions in damp basements. The more efficiently that our team can address moisture and dampness, the less likely conditions like mold growth, foul odors, and weakening materials can persist. Often this process must begin with a full inspection of the affected areas, including the use of our moisture readers, detection tools, and thermal or infrared imagery. These can identify moisture pockets that exist out of sight to indicate sources of damage as well as where focused drying efforts are necessary. We can also suggest means of preventing future damp conditions in your basement.

Also, our SERVPRO team arrives with multiple high-velocity air movers, desiccant dehumidifiers, and even Low Grain Refrigerant (LGR) dehumidification units to begin pulling moisture out of the environment quickly and consistently. We monitor the success of these drying efforts with our thermal imagery cameras and moisture content readers. We establish a baseline moisture content level, and when that is achieved, the area can be considered dry.

Wet basements are more familiar to the area then many homeowners might believe. There can be significant consequences to allowing this moisture to persist, damage to your structure, and potential health effects can be enough to reach out to our SERVPRO of Amityville / Lindenhurst rapid response team. If you want to make water damage “Like it never even happened,” call (631) 319-1680.
